Haldia Energy Limited

Haldia Energies Limited is deeply committed to fostering rural development and enhancing infrastructure through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, aiming to create sustainable, inclusive growth that empowers local communities while aligning with the broader goals of social and economic progress. Their CSR initiatives are designed to address various aspects of community development, education, health, hygiene, economic empowerment, and agricultural sustainability, aiming for comprehensive and sustainable improvements in the project area.

Haldia Energies has ensured 100% retention of students up to class 10 by facilitating the readmission of dropouts into local schools, preventing early school leaving after class 8.  The company operates Education Facilitation Centers (EFCs) in project villages, fostering the holistic development of children. It also collaborates with the Forum of Scientist Engineers & Technologists (FOSET) to conduct career counseling sessions, guiding school students on future career paths. Investment in educational infrastructure includes the construction of school buildings, practical labs, smart classes, and computer labs, ensuring better access to quality education.

The company has made substantial progress in improving healthcare access by organizing weekly referral and specialty health camps, reaching to patients in village outskirts and enhancing overall health in the project areas. Over 6000 sanitary napkins distributed through a village-level bank, promoting menstrual health among adolescent girls. The initiative raised awareness about menstrual hygiene, leading to over 95% of adolescent girls using sanitary napkins. The company effectively enhanced community health through improved healthcare facilities, 52 referral health camps for medical consultations, contributing to better overall well-being.

Haldia Energies has actively promoted sustainable agricultural practices by assisting 125 farmers in constructing vermi-compost pits, facilitating eco-friendly farming. The company has also partnered with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Purba Medinipur to train 281 farmers on modern agricultural techniques, helping them adopt sustainable practices that improve yield and contribute to food security. In addition, it supports income-generating activities for women, empowering them through initiatives like goat rearing, poultry, and small businesses. These efforts not only strengthen local economies but also have improved the livelihoods of 35 women, ensuring long-term social and financial development.

Through these comprehensive initiatives, Haldia Energies drives sustainable change across education, healthcare, women empowerment and agriculture in rural areas, contributing to community empowerment and aligning with multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), No Poverty (SDG 1), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) etc. Overall, the project demonstrates a holistic approach towards sustainable development, addressing multiple SDGs simultaneously and fostering positive changes in the community. The combination of short-term interventions and long-term goals ensures both immediate benefits and lasting impacts on education, health, agriculture, and gender equality.
